According to a report released from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a panel of independent experts, including Action Against Hunger, parts of East Africa are facing catastrophic hunger levels.
Kate Munro, Head of Advocacy at Action Against Hunger UK, said:
“The effects of climate change, rising food and energy prices, and conflict place extreme pressures on communities around the world, but particularly in lower-income countries which bear the brunt of these stressors. The result: displacement on a mass scale and people not having access to basic essentials like food.
“Failure to act at scale is a dereliction of duty. We do not want to wake up one day to extreme famine when right now we have all the knowledge and tools to prevent it.”
