Welcome to ICAN UK
The International Coalition for Advocacy on Nutrition (ICAN) was established in 2013 following the first Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit. Our coalition includes a broad array of international NGOs, advocacy organizations, and foundations united by a shared goal: to save and improve lives through better nutrition.
Our mission
Through ICAN, member organizations collaborate on advocacy efforts focused on securing political and financial commitments to end malnutrition in all its forms, everywhere. The UK working group of ICAN (ICAN UK) specifically aims to enhance the UK’s role in addressing global malnutrition.
Paris N4G Summit 2025: A Pivotal Moment
The Paris N4G Summit 2025 is a crucial opportunity to pledge commitments that will help reverse the rise in malnutrition. The outcomes of this summit will be decisive for the future health, development, and economic potential of millions of people worldwide.
A strong UK commitment to tackling malnutrition at the Summit is essential to enhance the returns on the UK’s investments in other development initiatives. By leveraging its diplomatic network, research institutions, and civil society partnerships, the UK can champion evidence-based approaches, work with local advocates and civil society organizations, and support robust accountability mechanisms.
ICAN UK Recommendations
ICAN has published a briefing titled Nutrition at the Heart of International Development: ICAN UK Recommendations to the FCDO for N4G 2025. This briefing underscores the critical importance of the 2025 Paris Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit as a pivotal moment to change track. Global leaders have the opportunity to make significant commitments to tackle the rise in malnutrition. The UK Government can demonstrate its renewed commitment as a key nutrition partner.
Previously, the UK played a leading role in tackling malnutrition by hosting the first-ever N4G Summit in 2013, which galvanized commitments for nutrition totalling $23 billion. By reconnecting with this process and making a strong UK commitment at the 2025 Summit, the UK would not only be investing in life-saving nutrition but also accelerating progress across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and demonstrating dedication to global justice and humanitarian principles.
Why It Matters
By supporting global nutrition investments, the UK can ensure these efforts deliver maximum impact, reflecting its values and vital role in building a sustainable, equitable, and healthy world.
